Asli Fine Foods, a Woodridge, IL-based food company is recalling one of its products — Asli Cinnamon Powder 7 oz. based on concerns that it may be contaminated with lead. The company acted after lead was found in tested product as part of routine sampling by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
The effects of lead exposure are very dangerous to health and can cause permanent harm in children by affecting the central nervous system. In addition, kidney dysfunction, hypertension and the neurocognitive consequences of lead exposure in adults may develop as with chronic lead exposures.
This product is sold through retail stores in Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and Ohio. Consumers who have purchased the Asli Cinnamon Powder 7 OZ are encouraged to return it to place of purchase for a full refund. The company announced it has ceased production and distribution of its products as they work with the FDA to investigate.
